KLABARZON collaborates with DOST to promote economic growth in Area 4A
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and local government units (LGUs) from the province of Cavite attended the first Town Hall Meeting on Public Policy held by the recently-formed “KLABARZON,” a region-based organization that aims to improve the general welfare and socioeconomic well-being of people living in Region-4A (Calabarzon).
KLABARZON, which stands for “Kabite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon,” according to convenor Senator Francis Tolentino, intends to sustain the socioeconomic development of the area.
Tolentino told Senate reporters, “It also attempts to cascade national government initiatives to the local governments and local communities within the Calabarzon Area. Layunin rin po nito na mapababa ang pamahalaang nasyonal sa mga pamahalaang lokal at mga
He claimed that the purpose of inviting DOST Secretary Renato Solidum to KLABARZON’s inaugural town hall meeting was to inform LGUs of the organization’s activities and services that may greatly advance the organization’s goals.
“Because science and technology are crucial, we started with DOST and you saw the LGUs’ response to the programs shared by Secretary Solidum that can benefit our citizens here in Cavite,” said Tolentino, who also serves as the chair of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology.
The Smart and Sustainable Communities Program, scholarships for talented science high school students, and environmental protection and sustainability are just a few of the initiatives that DOST implements with the assistance of its 18 affiliated agencies and in cooperation with LGUs.
The DOST today recognizes the need for research and development and innovations developed by the agency to be adopted by LGUs and, if practicable, commercialized. According to Solidum, the meeting with KLABARZON is timely.
“May paradigm shift kami sa pagkakaroon ng tradisyunal na research and development na mabigyan namin ng focus ang local government, mga citizens, and magkaroon ng collaboration, hindi lang mga siyentista, hindi lang local government, hindi lang nasyunal, pati na rin yung mga (We have a paradigm shift in
Tolentino stated that within the boundaries of the Southern Tagalog Region—regarded as the cradle of Philippine Independence—KLABARZON focuses on achieving economic growth, a better quality of education, as well as promoting sustainable regional tourism, cultural heritage, and environmental awareness and protection.
He stated that the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) would be at the upcoming KLABARZON Townhall Meeting in Laguna to discuss fair market pricing and other market tactics.
