PH-US defense and foreign ministerial talks are scheduled for April
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) revealed on Wednesday that the Philippines and the United States 2+2 ministerial discussions on defense and foreign policy will take place in April 2023.
The declaration was made a few days after US Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland and Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo met in Manila.
According to the DFA, all parties agreed to broaden the 2+2’s definition of security to cover issues like supply chains, energy, cybersecurity, and food security.
The US Departments of State and Defense and the Departments of Foreign Affairs and Defense of the Philippines will jointly lead the upcoming meeting, which will be hosted by the US.
When Manalo and Nuland met on March 6, they emphasized the significance of the Philippine-US alliance and partnership in fostering regional peace, stability, and resilience.
According to a readout from the DFA, the two officials discussed recent events in the West Philippine Sea/South China Sea.
In order to “identify tangible actions that the two countries may pursue jointly, and together with other like-minded partners,” the two also discussed international and bilateral issues that both parties find important.
