For its agribusiness priority programs in 2023, DBM allots P43 billion.
The implementation of the administration’s flagship food security programs will be funded with PHP42.8 billion under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA), according to a Tuesday announcement from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
The National Rice Program, National Corn Program, National Livestock Program, National High-Value Crops Development Program, Promotion and Development of Organic Agriculture Program, and National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program are among the programs, according to DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman.
She claimed that the president of the DA, Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., has highlighted that agriculture is a “primary priority” of his administration.
The top priorities in our 8-Point socioeconomic program are agricultural productivity and food security. As such, we have ensured that essential programs which strive to raise farm income and production will get a much-needed boost,” Pangandaman stated in a news release.
To increase rice output and improve the lives of rice farmers, the DBM has allotted PHP30.30 billion under the 2023 GAA for the implementation of the National Rice Program (NRP).
The National Corn Program, which aims to promote the production of high-quality maize and cassava for human consumption, animal feed, and industrial purposes, as well as to empower farmers and boost their income, received a total of PHP5.02 billion.
The DBM committed PHP4.50 billion to fund the National Livestock Program, which strives to expedite the growth of the poultry and livestock sector by boosting its production and raising the stakeholders’ profitability.
The National High-Value Crops Development Program received PHP1.80 billion in funding to support high-value crop production, processing, marketing, and distribution.
The Promotion and Development of Organic Agriculture Program, which aims to promote, spread, further develop, and implement the practice of organic agriculture in the nation, received an allocation from the DBM of PHP900 million.
The National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program, which aims to promote urban and peri-urban agriculture as well as other new agricultural methods, received a total of PHP318.47 million.
Marcos earlier said he wanted to take on the job of Agricultural Secretary to maintain the stability of food supply and prices in the country.
In order to improve the welfare of farmers, fishermen, and livestock growers, he told them that the government is actively putting initiatives into place and providing support.
