The government starts developing a housing program for uniformed troops.
The Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. government has started developing a way to finance its housing program, notably for uniformed personnel.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., the chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Gen. Andres Centino, the secretary of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), Jose Acuzar, and Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla were present at the meeting, according to a news release from the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Tuesday.
“We are beginning now to set up the system wherein they can be included in the financing system for this not only with public banks but also with private banks,” he said.
The commander-in-chief, Marcos, claimed that although there is land available for the initiative, the government must develop a plan to enlist others.
Acuzar has previously stated that the purpose of the upcoming financial plan is to “mobilize more private partners, such as developers, banks, and other financial institutions to invest in housing production.”
Additionally, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to finding housing for the nation’s uniformed soldiers.
In particular, he has been in charge of the introduction of the Zero ISF (Informal Settler Family) 2028 Program, the administration’s flagship initiative dubbed the “Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino.” Marcos has also been directing site inspections for several housing projects in Metro Manila and the provinces.
The program intends to address the nation’s estimated over 6.5 million unit housing backlog.
The DHSUD and government financial institutions have so far signed a memorandum of understanding to fund the department’s housing initiatives.
Prior to this, he gave the DHSUD the mandate to construct 1 million housing units annually for the following six years with interest support from the national government of PHP36 billion.
Marcos urged both public and private banks to support government efforts to reduce the backlog in housing in the nation in October of last year.
He claimed that providing incentives to private organizations would further motivate them to get involved in the construction and funding of the housing program.
