During Holy Week, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), which oversees social action and humanitarian efforts, asked the faithful to devote some time to charitable endeavors in addition to participating in customary religious activities.

Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo, president of Caritas Philippines, said on Monday that Catholics may want to think about assisting people in need throughout the Lenten season.

In order to be transformed by His compassion and mercy and to bring our brothers and sisters with us and lead them to Him, this asks us to travel with Jesus and with one another. In a statement, the Catholic prelate prayed that the Lenten season would be “a time of grace and transformation, leading us to a deeper relationship with God and to love and serve our brothers and sisters in need.”

He pleaded with the congregation to contribute to the Catholic Church’s “Alay Kapwa” (Offering of oneself to one’s neighbor) initiative.

Bagaforo remarked, “Caritas Philippines encourages everyone to take this time for Alay Kapwa, reconciliation, and rebirth.

“Alay Kapwa, Renewal, and reconciliation are all interdependent. The reason is that they are all acts of love, he continued.

Alay Kapwa is the yearly Lenten evangelizing and fundraising initiative of the Catholic Church that supports social services for the poor and in need.

The Catholic Church encourages its adherents to fast, pray, and perform charitable deeds throughout Holy Week. Additionally, they participate in customary activities like Visita Iglesia (church visits) and Via Crucis. (way of the cross).

This year’s Holy Week, which remembers the life, passion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, starts on April 2 (Palm Sunday) and finishes on April 9 (Easter Sunday).
