In anticipation of the anticipated surge in travelers during the prolonged holy week holiday and the start of the summer vacation, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) will be on high alert from March 31 through April 10.

The LTO said in a statement on Monday that “heightened alert” status will comprise carrying out roadworthiness inspections in terminals, random drug testing of public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and conductors, and stringent enforcement of traffic laws to protect the safety of passengers and drivers.

The Land Transportation and Traffic Code and other relevant statutes, according to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Jose Arturo “Jay Art” Tugade, require these inspections.

Automobile drivers will also have access to roadside assistance.

To ensure a smooth and safe journey, Tugade pleaded with the general public to cooperate and abide by traffic laws.

Aside from the key roadways in the North and South of the National Capital Region (NCR), LTO personnel will also monitor terminals and other strategic areas in different districts.

A seminar for drivers and conductors of public utility vehicles will be held on Tuesday as part of the LTO’s promotion of safe travels during the busy travel season.

“Hinihingi rin namin ang pakikiisa ng publiko sa pag-iingat at pagsunod sa mga batas-trapiko para sa biyaheng ayos ngayong taon (We also ask for the public’s cooperation in being careful and following traffic laws for a smooth trip this year),” he said
