In Albay, a new P30 million dam will irrigate 60 hectares of rice fields.
Following the early completion of a PHP30-million dam project in their region earlier this month, hundreds of farmers in Ligao City are anticipating an increase in their harvest during the upcoming cropping season.
Rep. Fernando Cabredo of Albay’s third district claimed in a phone interview on Thursday that the dam project will offer enough water to irrigate rice fields depending on rain for a very long time.
This is evidence that, if there is a desire, it is possible to assist our farmers in their demand for water and give them permission to produce rice for two planting seasons, according to Cabredo.
He claimed that the “Libtong Reservoir,” another name for the dam project, is situated in Sitio Libtong, Barangay Cabarian.
In addition to the adjacent communities of Maonon, Cabarian, and Catburawan, it can provide ample irrigation to the 60 hectares of rice fields that are located in Cabarian.
Farmers may expect a bountiful harvest now that the project is complete and waters are anticipated to be delivered to rice fields, said Cabredo.
The legislator suggested using PHP30 million from the national budget to pay for the Libtong Reservoir’s construction.
