Filipino Christians are urged by PBBM to act as greater change agents.
As Christians around the world observe Easter Week, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. urged Filipinos to “know Jesus Christ more” in order to be greater change agents.
In his Palm Sunday sermon, he urged everyone to “make this promise personal: Let it stimulate in each of us the desire to know Jesus Christ more so that we may become stronger agents of change and conduits of truth wherever we go.”
I wish everyone a joyous celebration, he continued, with the expectation of a better future through the grace of God.
Marcos was aware of the “many degrees and traditions” in which Filipinos observe the blessed occasion.
One thing always stands out as true, he stated, “no matter how often or varied this occasion may be in the Filipino psyche: that God, in His infinite and everlasting wisdom, demonstrated His boundless and incomparable love to us all through the very human person of Jesus Christ.”
He added that it is also natural that during this forthcoming Holy Week celebration, people will reflect on the issues and events of recent years.
He claimed that this offers Filipino Christians yet another opportunity to think carefully about the significance of Christ’s suffering and death.
He remarked, “It is vital that we turn our thoughts and our actions to the resurrection of the Lord and the triumph that this offers us to this very day, lest we end up defeated by the miseries of this world.”
In spite of the fact that it could be challenging to understand, he continued, “the message of salvation and eternal life remains as relevant as ever.”
The most sacred time in the Christian liturgical year is Holy Week, which is observed from Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday and is characterized by prayers, fasting, and meditation.
In order to give employees enough time to get ready for the celebration of Holy Week, including those returning to their homes in the provinces, Malacanang announced on Friday that work will be suspended in government offices beginning at noon on Holy Wednesday.
In Memorandum Circular 16, which was authored by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, the Palace made the statement.
Maundy Thursday and Good Friday (April 6 and 7) were previously recognized as regular holidays by Malacanang.
Araw ng Kagitingan is observed as a non-working holiday on April 10, the day following Easter Sunday (Day of Valor).
Security precautions for the “exodus”
According to a statement released over the weekend by Maj. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo, chief of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), all security measures have been put in place following an inspection of significant bus terminals and ports in advance of the anticipated influx of travelers during Holy Week.
Okubo examined the bus terminals in Pasay City, Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange, Asian Terminals Inc., North Port, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s Terminal 3, the bus terminal along EDSA in Cubao, Quezon City, and the bus terminal at Asian Terminals Inc.
In addition, he promised the public that from April 2 to April 9, there will be 4,600 security guards and assistance desks.
About 3,000 of the people will be employed by the Metro Manila Development Authority, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, Special Action Force, Regional Highway Patrol Unit, Regional Maritime Unit, and Aviation Security Group.
You can SMS 0999-9018181 or 0915-8889181 to reach the NCRPO.
Col. Relly Arnedo, the provincial police director of Bulacan, ordered the deployment of 200 extra police personnel to uphold law and order in key areas and at all points of convergence throughout the province as part of “Ligtas SUMVAC” (Summer Vacation).
In order to ensure the safety and security of critical infrastructure, including passenger terminals, resorts, and swimming pools, Arnedo continued, “The Bulacan Police has taken the initiative to conduct frequent inspections and increase police presence at tourist attractions and areas expected to have a high volume of tourists.”
