Solon wants to take action against online job scams.
Rep. Camille Villar of Las Pinas, who serves as the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, has filed a resolution calling for an investigation into the rise of con artists who prey on young Filipinos by promising them questionable or nonexistent jobs abroad.
To identify and take action against individuals responsible for the unlawful recruiting by syndicates, Villar stressed the necessity for a “full-blown inquiry.”
In a statement on Tuesday, she said: “There have been several stories of Filipinos being exploited by local placement agencies for fictitious employment abroad and syndicates offering high-paying jobs but the jobseeker finds up in a dubious cryptocurrency organization.
Villar urged the government to safeguard Filipinos from foreign syndicates and stop similar crimes from occurring in his House Resolution 899 because unlawful recruiting puts the lives of countless Filipinos in grave danger.
She forewarned young Filipino job seekers about trafficking gangs that use social media to entice people into working illegally for questionable companies abroad, particularly those who post phony job postings or leave comments on popular posts to make it seem as though they would land their dream job.
Six victims of a cryptocurrency ring operating abroad were previously saved by the Bureau of Immigration; some were given monthly salaries of PHP40,000 while others were given offers of USD800 to USD1,000 but were told to depart the country as tourists.
According to information that reached Villar’s office, several personnel who have subsequently returned home were not even paid the promised payment for the duration of their time overseas.
Tales of Filipinos who were tricked into working legally abroad but wound up working as con artists instead highlight the need for the government to zealously seek policies that would better safeguard them from shady recruiters and global gangs, she added. While it is the responsibility of the government to give its residents respectable opportunities to keep them from leaving, it is also crucial that the government protect its nationals seeking employment overseas from con artists and organized crime.
