Tropical Depression (TD) Amang will likely cause cloudy skies and rainfall Thursday through Friday, a forecaster predicted Tuesday.

“We expect that the TD will continue moving westward. Therefore it’s conceivable that from Thursday till Friday, the country would see overcast skies and rains owing to ‘Amang’,” Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Agency (PAGASA) weather specialist Daniel Villamil said in a public briefing.

A significant chunk of Luzon and the Visayas will experience rainfall and lower temperatures, especially in the afternoon, he noted.

Villamil warned the public to watch local updates from PAGASA regional centers, especially in Eastern Visayas and the Bicol Region, as these areas may receive heavy to strong rainfall in the coming hours or days.

“Be vigilant against probable flooding and landslides,” he urged.

“Amang” packs maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph, and is projected to persist as a tropical depression throughout the forecast period.

It was last traced 130 km. east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, or 250 km. east of Daet, Camarines Norte.

Strong breeze to near gale strength winds will dominate in locations where tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) No. 1 has been hoisted: Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Quezon including Pollilo Islands, Marinduque, Masbate, including Ticao Island, Burias Island, Rizal, Laguna (San Pablo City, Alaminos, Calauan, Bay, Los Baños, Rizal, Nagcarlan, Victoria, Pila, Liliw, Magdalena, Majayjay, Luisiana, Cavinti, Pagsanjan, Santa Cruz, Lumban, Kalayaan, Paete, Pakil, Pangil, Siniloan, Famy, Santa Maria, Mabitac), Aurora, Bulacan (Norzagaray, Doña Remedios Trinidad, San Miguel, San Ildefonso), Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya (Kasibu, Dupax del Norte, Dupax del Sur, Alfonso Castaneda), Nueva Ecija (General Tinio, City of Gapan, Peñaranda, San Leonardo, Santa Rosa, Cabanatuan City, Talavera, San Jose City, Carranglan, Pantabangan, Llanera, General Mamerto Natividad, Rizal, Bongabon, Laur, Palayan City, Gabaldon) and Isabela (Echague, San Agustin, Jones, Dinapigue, San Mariano, San Guillermo, Palanan, Angadanan, Benito Soliven, City of Cauayan) (Echague, San Agustin, Jones, Dinapigue, San Mariano, San Guillermo, Palanan, Angadanan, Benito Soliven, City of Cauayan).

Also under TCWS No. 1 are Northern Samar, Samar (Calbayog City, Matuguinao, San Jose de Buan, Gandara, Santa Margarita, San Jorge) and Eastern Samar (Jipapad, Maslog, Arteche, Oras, San Policarpo, Dolores) (Jipapad, Maslog, Arteche, Oras, San Policarpo, Dolores).

Meanwhile, rough seas may be experienced in the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon and the northern and eastern seaboard of the Visayas.

PAGASA urged fishing boats and other small vessels not to travel into the sea, and larger vessels are notified about strong waves.

Villamil added no other meteorological disturbance was spotted to harm the country.
