Representative Ray Reyes of the Anakalusugan Partylist called the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on Thursday to uphold its obligation to deliver an appropriate power supply, particularly during the summer, to guarantee the reliability and consistency of operations in healthcare facilities.

The lives of hospital patients are on the line, and we need to ensure that the quality of operations in our medical facilities won’t be harmed, Reyes said in a statement. “We urge the NGCP to make sure that we have adequate power supply all throughout the summer season when demand is at its highest,” Reyes said.

After the NGCP issued a warning about potential summertime intermittent power outages, the congressman took the decision.

Reyes also emphasized the NGCP’s role in the nation’s transition to renewable energy and urged the power grid operator NGCP to expedite its research on green energy projects in order to provide consumers with a more reliable, less expensive source of electricity.

The nation’s state-owned power system is operated, maintained, and developed by NGCP, a privately held company.

Before moving further with an energy project, developers of new energy sources must first complete a system impact study (SIS) by the NGCP.

“NGCP has the ability to facilitate the integration of renewable energy technology into the grid. To ensure a sufficient and affordable energy supply, more projects need to be completed, according to Reyes.
