39 new instances of Omicron XBB.1.91 are recorded by PH.

39 more Omicron XBB cases have been discovered by the Department of Health (DOH).XBB sublineage 1.91 subvariant.

The subvariant was added to the list of variants being tracked by the World Health Organization on March 30, according to the DOH’s most recent surveillance report.

“The variation was first noted for its superior growth advantage and rising global prevalence. According to sequence submissions in GISAID [Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data], the variant has been found in 63 nations or jurisdictions across six continents, the DOH stated.

Between April 3 and April 11, the University of the Philippines’ Main and Mindanao branches of the Philippine Genome Center sequenced about 199 samples.

30 XBB.1.5 cases and 39 XBB.1.9.1 cases were among the 114 or 57.29 percent of these that were identified as XBB.

35 of the 39 XBB.1.9.1 cases were classified as local, with 22 cases coming from the Davao Region, seven cases from the Ilocos Region, four cases from the National Capital Region, and one case each from the Central Visayas and Soccsksargen.

The other four cases involved returning Filipinos from abroad (ROF).

The subvariant has previously been reported in 15 cases across the nation.

The DOH stated that there are no differences between XBB.1.9.1 and the original Omicron variant in terms of the severity and/or clinical manifestations of the disease.

“Limited information is available for the variant, and researchers are currently characterizing the variant in terms of transmissibility, immune evasion, and ability to cause more severe disease.”

The remaining samples that were sequenced during that time were divided into the following categories: BA.2.3.20, which had 70 cases; XBC; two; CH.1.1; one; BQ.1; and BA.2.

One of the BA.2.3.20 cases was identified as a ROF, according to the DOH, and the other cases came from Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Central Visayas, and the Davao Region.

BQ.1 and XBC cases were reported from the Davao Region, and CH.1.1 cases were reported from Region 4-B (Mimaropa).

As of March 22, the WHO has designated XBB.1.5 as a variant of interest and BA.2.75, BQ.1, CH.1.1, and XBF as variants under surveillance.

As of March 23, the CH.1.1, BN.1, and XBC variations were being monitored by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, while BA.2.75, BQ.1, XBB, and XBB.1.5 were designated as variants of interest.
