A relationship between the Philippines, the US, and India for digital public infrastructure has been promoted by Speaker Martin Romualdez.

After hearing the presentation on digital public infrastructure on Saturday (Philippine time) at the International Monetary Fund’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., Romualdez came up with the idea.

The Indian multinational information technology company Infosys’ one of its founders, Nandan Nilekani, was another person he briefly spoke with.

The US, India, and the Philippines should take the lead in this project to build a digital public infrastructure, he said, as the participating countries stand to gain significantly.

He asserted that the primary driver behind the House of Representatives March 6 passage of House Bill 7327, also known as the E-Governance/E-Government Bill, was the development of public digital infrastructure.

The goal of the plan is to move the entire bureaucracy online in order to offer services more quickly and transparently and to improve public engagement.

According to him, “building public digital platforms is very much in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s campaign promise to speed up the country’s digital transformation.”

He continued, “Digitalization will unquestionably prove to be the solution to the economic issues left behind by Covid-19.”

Digital public infrastructure enables participation in civic and public life online.
