Local contractors are being urged by cement manufacturer Holcim Philippines to utilize environmentally friendly building materials for both public and private projects.

Using low-carbon products in the construction industry will help the nation meet its commitments to climate action, said Holcim Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Horia Adrian at the press conference of the relaunching of Holcim’s flagship brand Excel ECOPlanet on Tuesday in Pasay City.

He declared, “Let’s imagine that one of the businesses contributing to this CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions is the construction industry.

Adrian stated that when the government expands its infrastructure initiative, the company will continue to communicate with national and local authorities about the advantages of adopting eco-friendly cement and other building materials.

“We are here to be partners and we are here to provide what is needed to reduce the CO2 emission for the construction industry and to decarbonize the construction industry in the country,” he said to reporters.

Adrian claimed that the effects of climate change had raised consumer demand in the Philippines for environmentally friendly goods.

Excel ECOPlanet emits 30% less carbon dioxide than regular Portland cement because it contains recycled waste products from steel, power plants, and limestone, among other sources.

Adrian said that a million tons of recyclable trash may be added to the cement products produced at Holcim Philippines’ manufacturing facilities.

He claimed that the business was also interested in recycling buildings and demolition waste.

Incorporating recycling into the new method of construction is “a serious commitment that we are making here,” he continued. “We ought to protect the environment. Make sure to use more recycled materials when building.
