According to Russia’s sanitary authority, Rospotrebnadzor, cases of the new coronavirus variety known as Arcturus have been reported; the disease brought on by this version normally takes a moderate form.

“The regions have been informed about the coronavirus sub-variant XBB 1.16 (Arcturus). The VGARus database now has the first genetic sequences connected to this subvariant, which was found in India. Arcturus may be more contagious, although it is not very pathogenic, according to preliminary research. It said that there were no epidemiological limits required and that this indicates the ailment it causes manifests in a modest way.

In addition, the watchdog said that Covid-19 incidence decreased by 14% from the prior week to 49,500 instances.

“Variants of the Omicron strain are still dominant,” it continued.

More than 643,000 instances of the flu and acute respiratory viral infections were reported in Russia during the 15th week of the year, a 1.3% decrease over the previous seven days.

“Influenza accounted for 30% of cases,” the report said.
