14 new hotels are planned by SM and Radisson over the next five years.

SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC) will invest PHP15 billion to construct 14 new hotels under the Radisson brand over the course of the next five years, banking on the expansion of the tourist industry and the buying power of Filipino customers.

The master development agreement was signed on Wednesday in Quezon City by SMHCC chair and president Elizabeth Sy, executive vice president Peggy Angeles, and chief executive officers of Radisson Hotel Group Federico Gonzรกles and Ramzy Fenianos.

In accordance with the new agreement, the Radisson Hotel Group will grant SMHCC the sole right to develop and incorporate Park Inn by Radisson hotel projects with SM real estate ventures across the country.

According to Angeles, the majority of the new Park Inn by Radisson hotels that will be constructed over the next five years will be outside of Metro Manila in an effort to boost economic activity in the provinces.

She listed several locations for new hotels that will be included in SM property development projects, including Isabela, Olongapo, Laoag, Dasmarinas, Sta. Rosa, and Fairview.

The alliance hopes to partner with 20 Park Inn by Radisson properties nationwide by 2028.

The first Park Inn by Radisson in the nation and the first in the Asia Pacific was constructed in Davao City in 2013.

In addition, Bacolod City, Clark, Iloilo City, and Quezon City now have the hotel brand.

A 516-room dual-branded resort in Cebu under the Radisson and Park Inn Radisson brands is being built by the SMHCC and Radisson Hotel Groups.

“We’re incredibly happy that all of its travel restrictions and borders were opened in the second quarter of last year. You are aware that the demand for travel has skyrocketed. So far as the hotels are concerned, we’re pleased to report that occupancy numbers are already very high, according to Angeles.

She said that SMHCC hotel occupancy rates have surpassed pre-pandemic levels.

She stated that Park Inn by Radisson is a brand that is represented by 48% of the hotels under the SMHCC.

Angeles predicted that the demand for high-quality lodging will continue to rise as a result of the growing number of flights and the hunger for travel among both domestic and foreign tourists.

Meanwhile, Gonzรกles claimed that the Philippines has a wealth of unrealized possibilities for Radisson Hotel Groups.

“We need to share this beauty with the rest of the world,” he added. “The country has its own beauty that is known internationally by the quality of your people, the quality of your spirit of welcome, and the quality of your people’s service.”

Andre de Jong, senior vice president of the Radisson Hotel Group Southeast Asia and Pacific region, stated that the projects would create roughly 1,250 jobs for Filipinos with the additional 2,500 rooms for the 14 new hotels.
