To streamline processes and reduce the public’s reliance on fixers, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is aiming to abbreviate its driver’s license exams.

LTO chief assistant secretary Jose Arturo “Jay Art” Tugade stated in a statement on Thursday that “lengthy procedures” are one of the causes for which many license applicants pay fixers or unofficial third parties who conduct LTO transactions for a fee.

“I told our committee to shorten the exam, and they did so. It is said that this exam lasts for around an hour. Now, the FDA is researching ways to make the exam shorter. I think that shortening the exam’s time limit will encourage our applicants to take the test on their own rather than look for fixers.

With an emphasis on knowledge, abilities, and attitude, the committee will focus on exam questions analysis and material condensing without sacrificing its goal of granting licenses to qualified drivers.

New non-professional licenses, conductor’s licenses, transitioning from non-professional to professional classification, and adding a driver’s license code are among the reduced exams being examined.

He stated that in addition to shortening the exams, the committee will also consider tailoring exam questions according to the applicant’s desired license classification or driver’s license code.
