‘Fixers,’ fraudulent documents endanger public safety, says LTO chief

Fixers and those who sell phony licenses and other documents, according to the head of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), “jeopardize” public safety.

On Friday, Assistant Secretary Jose Arturo “Jay Art” Tugade, head of the LTO, said that the organization would keep working with the public, law enforcement, and other organizations to “eradicate the dishonest activities that have tarnished the agency’s reputation.”

“Fake licenses lead to unqualified and dangerous drivers, while fake vehicle registrations reveal vehicles that are not roadworthy,” he stated.

Tugade praised the efforts of the LTO Region 10 and the City Intelligence Unit of the Cagayan de Oro police, which resulted in the arrest of two alleged fixers in separate operations.

“Our agency strives to maintain the integrity of our processes and, ultimately, safeguard the public,” Tugade added.

The activities got underway after an informant told the police that a delivery rider had given them a fake LTO official receipt for their car.

“This resulted in the arrest of the rider and the subsequent detention of a woman accused of fabricating documents,” he claimed.

During the raids, authorities seized fake ORs, registration certificates, driver’s licenses, and tools for producing fake papers.

The two arrested suspects, he said, “are in police custody and will be charged with forging official records.”

A third suspect is still on the loose.
