Farmers in Albay and CamSur receive P135 million in agricultural inputs from the government.

This week, rice farmers, high-value crops, and poultry in Albay and Camarines Sur received farm inputs worth PHP135 million from the Department of Agriculture in Bicol (DA-5).

The Quick Response subsidize (QRF), and regular funds of the Rice Program, High-Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP), and Livestock and Poultry Program of the DA were used to subsidize the widespread distribution of agricultural supplies.

According to Lovella Guarin, DA-5 communications officer, in an interview on Friday, the distribution also coincided with the commemoration of Farmers and Fisherfolks Month this May.

She claimed that by helping the farmers, DA-Bicol recognized the value of farmers and fishermen in maintaining the nation’s food security.

Guarin stated that to help farmers boost their produce and income, they will intervene and support them more in the upcoming months.

“DA-Bicol will support farmers with fertilizer for planting during the wet season (through September 15).” We will begin distributing fertilizer support through a fertilizer discount coupon by June,” she stated.

10,213 bags of hybrid palay seeds, 3,040 bags of zinc sulfate, 42,264 liters of foliar fertilizer, 42,414 packs of plant development enhancer, 21,332 packs of plant growth enhancer, 6,075 pieces of laminated sacks, 25 units of knapsack sprayers were supplied as part of the DA-Bicol Rice Program.

The CLLS Federation of High-Value Crops Inc. in Libmanan, the Federation of Integrated Farmers of Tinambac, the Pilinio Federation of High-Value Crops Growers Inc. in Pili, and the Itulan Farmers Association in Pasacao, all in Camarines Sur, received four units of pump irrigation systems under the HVCDP.

570 heads of free-range chicken were provided as part of the Livestock and Poultry Program in Albay and Camarines Sur.

Guarin continued, adding that the sum does not include the cost of the poultry inputs, “The PHP133.53 million worth of interventions benefited five farmer associations and 37 local government units from the five districts of Camarines Sur.”
