In light of the increasing number of cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the area, Central Luzon health officials reaffirmed their request for people to adhere to the basic health standards on Wednesday.

Corazon Flores, director of the Department of Health Central Luzon Center for Health Development (DOH CLCHD), asserted that if the general public did its part in adhering to the health measures put in place to control the spread of the virus, spikes in the number of new Covid-19 infections could be avoided or minimized.

“The COVID-19 infection is still present and growing. As a result, Flores stated, “We are reminding the public and asking them to practice the minimal public health standards consistently.

According to records, Central Luzon reported 1,027 new Covid-19 cases between May 14 and May 20, of which five are severe.

Despite this, according to the DOH CLCHD, there were no Covid-19 deaths reported during the period, and the healthcare usage rates of 18% for non-intensive care unit (ICU) beds and 9% for ICU beds are still considered low.

Flores stated that the voluntary use of face masks in open locations and unpopulated outdoor areas with good ventilation is advised to reduce the rise in Covid-19 cases.

According to her, it is strongly advised that those partially or not fully immunized, especially high-risk individuals like elderly citizens and others with impaired immune systems, wear masks that fit properly and maintain a one-meter physical distance.

The best method to protect yourself from Covid-19 is still to wear a face mask at all times in indoor private and public venues, including public transportation, Flores urged.

She continued, “we can stop the rise in Covid-19 cases.”
