Case of COVID-19 discovered in Mayon evacuation facility.
On Monday, a coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) case was confirmed by the Department of Health in the Bicol region (DOH-5) in an evacuation center in Barangay Gabawan, Daraga town.
Director of DOH-5 Dr. Ernie Vera stated that the verified case is an 82-year-old female with a fever, cough, and cold.
He stated, “The patient is currently being treated at the Anislag Infirmary, Daraga, Albay, and is being kasalukuyang naka-isolate at ginagamot.”
According to Vera, the DOH-5 is working with the Daraga local government, the Albay provincial government, and its health partners to execute contact tracing.
“Monday, June 19, all close contacts are confined and swabbed. The official said the swab samples will now be delivered to the Bicol-South Luzon Sub National Reference Laboratory (BSL-SNRL) for RT-PCR testing.
Families afflicted by Mayon currently number 5.8K.
Meanwhile, 5,813 families, or 20,049 people, have been homeless due to the Mayon Volcano’s disturbance.
During a media briefing, Governor of Albay Edcel Grex Lagman stated that the precise number of evacuees must be reported using data collected on the ground.
“We’ll see that information is communicated to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC). We will inform Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr. if we need to speak with him. It is necessary to use the information from the Albay Public Safety Emergency Management Office (APSEMO). As there was some uncertainty about the total number of affected families, Lagman stated, “I will make sure that it receives the attention of our secretary.
Residents of 25 barangays in Camalig, Guinobatan, Ligao City, Daraga, Tabaco City, Malilipot, and Santo Domingo, all in the province of Albay, make up the evacuees.
safe water to drink
Additionally, on Monday, the provincial government of Albay was guaranteed help from the Philippine Navy patrol ship BRP Andres Bonifacio (PS-17), particularly in delivering clean and drinkable drinking water to Mayon evacuees.
Commodore Joe Anthony Orbe, commander of Naval Forces Southern Luzon, stated during a press conference in this city that his organization is prepared to help the province with the needs of residents displaced by volcanic activity.
“On June 14, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited Albay, and our secretary of national defense pledged that the Navy would provide support as needed, in whatever way. The Philippine Navy sends a ship equipped to provide its own water and capable of providing humanitarian aid. According to Orbe, even at alert levels 4 or 5, the Navy can provide from the sea by converting salt water to fresh water.
He asserted that 32,000 liters of potable water can be delivered daily to Albayanos temporarily housed in several evacuation centers by BRP Andres Bonifacio (PS-17).
“We will distribute the desalinated water via the Office of Civil Defence (OCD) and the provincial administration of Albay. To protect the water against bacteria, the gallons were sealed. Aside from the current water test, which it passed, and being fit for human consumption, we ensure that it is preserved,” he stated.
Orbe stated that besides the freshwater desalination process, the BRP Andres Bonifacio can help with personnel, freight transportation, and the medical and search and rescue operation teams.
He also said the ship could serve as a floating command post for the Albay province administration if the Mayon Volcano scenario worsens.
“The governor and his staff may continue to ride along. We have communication tools, and a chopper can land here. With fuel, provisions, and water on board, this ship can cruise for 30 days. Currently, the Navy is dedicated to providing help, according to Orbe.
Lagman expressed his gratitude to the Philippine Navy for lending its resources and expertise to the provincial administration to protect the citizens of Albay from Mt. Mayon’s effusive eruption.
“We are aware that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are present for the purpose of ensuring our country’s foreign security during a time of war. I want to express my gratitude to Gilbert Teodoro Jr., Secretary of National Defence, and our President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. This kind of catastrophe relief and humanitarian activities are welcome, the governor remarked.
