Palawan hopes to revive the tourism industry after the pandemic.

On Sunday, representatives of the region’s tourism and hospitality sectors said initiatives are being taken to increase the province’s appeal to tourists and adventure seekers.

The current tourism travel fair in this city, according to Rey Felix Rafols, president of the Palawan Tourism Council (PTC), was organized as a one-stop-shop for travelers looking for information, a variety of destinations, and the help of competent experts when making decisions about their trip plans.

The three-day travel expo began on Saturday and will last until Monday at Robinsons Place Palawan.

It is one of many activities connected to the month-long Baragatan Festival, with the theme “Experience a Renewed Palawan: Celebrating People, Festival, Places, Food, and Culture.”

The Baragatan (convergence or conference) features the cultural groups of the province through, among other things, street dancing, float parades, trade shows, and exhibitions.

According to Rafols, the travel expo gives companies in the hospitality and tourist industries a chance to advertise their goods and services to prospective clients.

“Its purpose is to commemorate tourism, encompassing not only the general magnificence of Palawan and its pristine beaches but also the unflappable spirit of the Palaweos, which has consistently been regarded as one of our most valuable strengths,” he said in an interview.

Despite the difficulties brought on by the pandemic, Rafols stated Palawan “continues to be resilient, looking forwards, and embracing.”

He emphasized the need for the provincial government to prioritize the development of cuisine tourism and history tours as a critical step in maintaining the renewal of Palawan’s tourism industry.

“There’s room for improvement in food and offering cultural heritage tourism, and hopefully, with the help of our tourism officials in the provincial government, we can do it,” he continued.

During the opening of the travel expo, Provincial Board member Roseller Pineda emphasized the necessity of having no off-season for tourism in Palawan or the Philippines because it is a tropical nation without a winter season.

Pineda proposed encouraging local travelers to fill in during the second half of the year’s wet season by offering incentive travel during the off-season.

“In the off-season, we must promote domestic tourism among Filipinos, including Palaweos. Incentives for travel can be provided by the provincial government, municipal government, and every local government unit in Palawan, according to him.

According to Pineda, one tactic is for public agencies or even for-profit businesses to reward outstanding achievers with trips.

“If we can accomplish it in Palawan and gradually introduce it across the country while working with the DOT (Department of Tourism), we can campaign for it or plea to the governors’ league to provide incentive trips to top-performing employees. He continued that Palawan would benefit from it because we are a popular tourist destination.
