🔍🇵🇭 ‘Love the Philippines’ viral video under ‘exhaustive’ probe
🔎 The Department of Tourism (DOT) has initiated an “exhaustive investigation” into the recently released promotional video of the “Love the Philippines” campaign. The video went viral after allegations surfaced that it used overseas stock video footage.
📝 A statement on DOT Secretary Christina Frasco’s Facebook account mentioned that the DOT’s contracted agency, DDB Philippines, prepared and published an audio-visual presentation (AVP) for the enhanced tourism campaign. The DOT is investigating the allegations to determine their validity and gather all the facts.
🔍 The DOT stated that they had sought confirmation from DDB multiple times regarding the originality and ownership of the materials used in the video. According to the DOT, DDB repeatedly reassured them that all materials were original and properly owned.
💼 DDB Philippines won the contract to develop the updated branding campaign, replacing the previous tourism slogan “It’s More Fun in the Philippines.” The campaign, including the study, logo creation, and other components, reportedly cost PHP49 million.
💰 The DOT clarified that no public funds were used to produce the viral AVP, as DDB released it.
⚖️ The DOT emphasized its commitment to promoting Philippine tourism at the highest standard. It stated that it would hold accountable those responsible and take necessary action to protect the country’s interests.
💻 Blogger Sass Sasot pointed out in a Facebook post that at least six clips featured in the “Love the Philippines” video were sourced from a stock video footage site and were not filmed in the country.
