The city government of Dagupan has reported a significant increase in actual income, rising by 18% from PHP1.1 billion in 2021 to PHP1.35 billion in 2022.

During the Pakabat ed Baley (State of the City Address) on Monday, Mayor Belen Fernandez credited the efforts of government employees, particularly at the one-stop business center (OSBC), for the notable growth.

“The employees at the OSBC have been diligent and efficient. This signifies that the economy is bouncing back and improving,” she stated.

According to data from the City Information Office, business taxes and license collections reached PHP213 million in 2022, while market collection amounted to PHP69 million.

Additionally, revenue from the city’s public comfort rooms totaled PHP4.4 million, with the city’s share in the national tax allotment reaching PHP861 million.

The city also collected PHP69 million in real property taxes, generated interest income of PHP5.8 million, and gathered PHP11.8 million in garbage fees.

Fernandez expressed the city government’s goal to streamline the services provided by the OSBC and other city offices by 2024.

“We are currently working on enhancing the computerization of processes at the OSBC to make them faster and more efficient,” she revealed.

She further stated that funding would be allocated for digitalization and a community-based monitoring system in 2024, although the specific amount was not yet confirmed.

Meanwhile, the city’s annual expenditures in 2022 amounted to PHP951 million.

Notable funded projects included overtime pay for employees (PHP6 million), youth and sports expenditures (PHP4.6 million), scholarship grants (PHP104.6 million), and appropriations for children (PHP389 million).

Furthermore, Fernandez highlighted the local government’s focus on dredging river systems in the city to address the persistent flooding issue. Infrastructure projects for schools and villages, as well as social services, are also planned.
