The Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) is looking to expand its collaboration with Binibining Pilipinas International 2021 Hannah Arnold in the area of science and technology (S&T), according to its executive director.

PCIEERD executive director Enrico Paringit told the Philippine News Agency that “beyond STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), we want her to talk on S&T and innovations as important instruments not just for solving crimes but also for pressing national problems.”

Arnold, a forensic science graduate, was a guest speaker at a PCIEERD virtual session on Thursday. She expressed her desire for further cooperation with PCIEERD and the Department of Science and Technology at that time.

Arnold offered to cooperate when she heard about the agency’s SIBOL position, according to Paringit (Science and Innovation Budding Opportunities for Leverage). The PCIEERD promotes different research and development activities or projects that began in 2021 via its Facebook page. PCIEERD’s SIBOL initiative raises awareness of these projects.

“We realize that, given her prominence, she might be an excellent role model for promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) as a profession and the cause of R&D,” Paringit added.

He went on to say that they anticipate Arnold’s continuous advocacy will have a beneficial impact on people contemplating careers in science and technology, as well as on respect for science and the scientific community.

Arnold said during her presentation that STEM would continue to be important even after the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) epidemic is over.

“Science will assist us in honing our critical thinking skills. We will be prepared to work in a high-tech, inventive atmosphere thanks to technology. Engineering will enable us to hone our problem-solving abilities and apply them to new community initiatives. When developing solutions for everyone, mathematics will allow us to evaluate data and make informed choices “she observed.

Arnold believes that people working in STEM fields are modern-day heroes and that youth and science and technology will help the nation “get out of the dark.” STEM education, she believes, will make a significant contribution to society by preparing students to change areas of concern via creativity and long-term solutions.

The winner of the beauty pageant also reminded the audience that failing is a part of the process. She confessed that she had failed her Genetics unit and would have to retake it.

“It helped me understand that failure, unfamiliar and unpleasant environments are necessary parts of the process,” she said, “so we can observe more, come up with new hypotheses, learn new lessons, and offer something helpful to others.”

Arnold claimed her passion for the lab coat and goggles would never fade, even as she became a model and a pageant contestant.

She intended to be a doctor until she was in high school when experiments and formulae piqued her interest in science and technology. “It was in Grade 12 when a fingerprinting course was taught. I realized I could continue my education in this area if I wanted to “she went on.

Arnold said that she is now advocating for education via her platform. She encourages kids to be community watchers.

In terms of Paringit, he said that they will contact Arnold to discuss options.
