Gen. Andres Centino, the leader of the Philippine Armed Forces (AFP), has tested positive for coronavirus illness in 2019. (Covid-19).

“General Andres Centino, the AFP Chief of Staff, tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday, according to the AFP (Thursday). General Centino has been moved to an approved isolation facility within Camp Aguinaldo, where he will continue to work, albeit under supervision “Col. Ramon Zagala, a military spokesperson, said in a message to reporters on Friday.

Despite this, Centino will remain in full command of the AFP, monitoring all units in doing their assigned responsibilities using all available and permitted means.

“To avoid the spread of this disease, the Chief of Staff is taking this opportunity to encourage our members to always exercise safety measures and follow health standards. The AFP continues to argue for the preservation of our force so that we can carry out our mission of protecting the people and securing the state properly “Zagala explained.

Gen. Dionardo Carlos, the Philippine National Police (PNP) commander, contracted Covid-19 earlier this week and is currently in isolation.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the chief implementer of the National Task Force against Covid-19, as well as Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, and Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, are all under quarantine after being exposed to people who have been infected with the disease.
