According to the latest data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, pediatric hospitalizations due to Covid-19 are at an all-time high since the outbreak began (CDC).

Since the CDC began tracking the statistic in August 2020, the country has averaged 893 new hospital admissions per day for youngsters 17 and younger, a record high.

According to the CDC, the majority of these hospitalizations are due to Covid-19, while other children were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for Covid-19 when they were admitted or during their hospital stay.

From August 1, 2020, to January 13, 2022, the country experienced over 90,000 total hospital admissions for children aged 17 and under, according to CDC data.

Those aged infants to four years, who are not yet eligible for vaccination, have the highest hospitalization rates of all children.

According to the CDC, the Omicron variant does not appear to cause more severe disease in children than other viral variants, and pediatric hospitalization rates are still lower than any other adult age group.

The CDC predicted that Covid-19 hospitalizations among children will continue to rise in the coming weeks, and advised everyone aged 5 and above to get vaccinated against the virus.
