Ex-DA chief sees huge bamboos as having worldwide market potential.

Former Agriculture Secretary Manny Pinol believes that planting “huge bamboos” is a profitable investment for Filipino farmers.

“Ang dami kasing gamit ng kawayan (There are just so many applications for bamboo) and I can understand the excitement of people viewing the photographs of the towering bamboos,” Pinol wrote on Monday in a social media post.

He emphasized the necessity of agricultural empowerment for Filipinos.

Pinol has previously delivered over a thousand huge bamboo kinds to Naga City.

He claimed in his post that bamboo materials might be used for floating fish cages, house materials, and pet cages in the near future.

Shipments to Polilio, Quezon, Masbate, Marinduque, Romblon, Bantayan, and Camotes Islands, as well as additional bamboos for Mindoro and Palawan, are on the way, according to him.

According to the Philippine Bamboo Foundation (PBF), the Philippines is the world’s fifth-largest bamboo exporter, trailing only Vietnam. China, Europe, and Indonesia are among the other exporters.

It further stated that bamboo is planted on up to 52,000 hectares of land in the country, but the market requires more.

Mindanao’s bamboo sector got an International Commodity Certification (ICC) in 2021, allowing it to enter the billion-dollar construction market in the United States.

The Philippines, according to Bukidnon Giant Bamboo Resources Corporation, can meet a portion of the United States’ yearly 3,000-container requirement.
