A new effort aims to improve the PH Army’s aeromedical capabilities.
The Philippine Army (PA) launched its first-ever aeromedical evacuation training program on Monday, with the goal of increasing life-saving capabilities and ensuring the survival of combat-wounded men.
“A total of 17 students will participate in the blended training program, which will be split into two parts: the Army Flight Medic Course and the Army Critical Care Flight Medic Course. The 21-week program will improve students’ knowledge and skills in treating and boosting the survivability of combat-wounded soldiers, according to a statement released by the Pennsylvania Army National Guard on Monday night.
He stated that the training aims to improve the Army Aviation Regiment’s aeromedical competence in preparation for the acquisition of aviation assets that would be used to transfer war wounded.
The shortest means to convey a combat-wounded soldier from the scene of injury to the nearest medical care center is by air medical evacuation.
“Army surgeons, nurses, and flight technicians will be better equipped to improve the chances of combat-wounded soldiers’ survival,” Army chief nurse Col. Maria Victoria Juan stated.
Meanwhile, Col. Andre Santos, commander of the Army Aviation Regiment, who spoke at the virtual event as a guest of honor and speaker, noted that having this capability will considerably increase unit morale in the field.
“Having served in the field myself, I know that this training course will raise our troops’ morale by reassuring them that support is always close by in case something goes wrong while we’re completing the job,” he added.
As the situation unfolded, Santos stated that the Army Aviation Regiment, in collaboration with the Office of the Army Chief Nurse and the Office of the Army Chief Surgeon, will work to address the lack of medical evacuation helicopters staffed by properly trained medical personnel, aviators, and crews working as a team.
