Unvaccinated data from local governments will be used to identify locations where more vaccinations are needed.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said on Friday that it has to combine the number of vaccinated and unvaccinated people to figure out how many coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines are needed in a given location.
According to DILG Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin Dino, who spoke at a Laging Handa briefing, this is one of the reasons why village officials have been asked to conduct an inventory of unvaccinated people.
He explained that because some people have previously been vaccinated outside of their communities, this can help identify regions where there is an excess supply of Covid-19 vaccine, which can then be delivered to other areas in need.
“Kung sobra ang bakuna sa NCR, pwede na dalhin ito sa mga probinsiya,” Dino stated in a Laging Handa briefing.
Dino further stated that this will address the demands of provincial local chief executives (LCEs) for greater vaccine supplies, adding that some of them protested last year that only the NCR was given priority in the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines.
Meanwhile, Dino praised local governments for coming up with innovative strategies to persuade unvaccinated residents to get vaccines.
He noted the Quezon City government’s decision to pay unvaccinated vendors cash incentives in return for becoming vaccinated in order to compensate for their lost income.
If unvaccinated barangay captains do not want to be vaccinated, Dino advised them to resign or take a leave of absence from their posts.
“Sinabi ko na mga barangay officials na hindi bakunado at saka yung halimbawa lahat ng barangay officials kung ayaw niyo talaga ay mag depart kayo kasi papaano natin ipapatupad ang isang batas na tayo mismo ang medyo may violation. ‘No vax, no labas,’ halimbawa sasabihin mo, tapos sasabihin ni kapitan hindi ka puwede lumabas dahil wala ka pa vaccine mukha yatang ikaw pa ang hindi bakunado pagkatapos anlakas ng loob mo na manita (I informed unvaccinated barangay officials, ‘ If you’re the first to break the law, how will you enforce it? For example, you might say, “no vax, no labs.” He added, “It appears you have the audacity to call out the unvaccinated while you are one of them.”)
Even barangay captains, Dino warned, might be prosecuted if their local regulations are broken.
