This month, the online sign-up for PhilSys-Davao City will be fully operational.

The online pre-registration and booking for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Step 2 biometrics process are expected to be fully operational this month.

Argel Ryan Jayo, an official of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) 11 (Davao region), stated in a recent virtual press conference that PhilSys-Davao has received several inquiries from registrants regarding their pending appointments.

Registrants have asked PSA-11 to accommodate them in mall registration centers.

Jayo stated that PSA-11 has requested that the central office activate the online pre-registration here in order to help the region meet the PhilSys target of having all residents obtain their Philippine Identification (PhilID) cards or national ID.

“We asked the central office to make it available online.” “Hopefully, it will be operational by the end of the month,” he said.

PSA-PhilSys Davao City is currently accommodating those with pending appointments at mall-based locations.

“For the time being, kahit pending pa ang appointment namin tinatanggap namin (For the time being, even though some appointments are pending, we accept them anyway),” said Jayo, an information statistical analyst.

According to PSA policy, those with appointment slips will be prioritized, while not all walk-ins will be lined up because registrants are limited to 200 per day in order to comply with health protocols.

“We will first entertain those with appointment slips, but we will also accommodate those with pending appointments,” he clarified.

PSA-11 expects to register 3,631,236 people in the region this year.

As of October, it had processed approximately 70.38 percent of the target in the Davao region for Step 2 biometrics registration.

Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, was signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte in August 2018. Its goal is to create a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.

The national ID card must be a valid form of identification that can be used to simplify public and private transactions, school enrollment, and bank account opening.

It also aims to improve efficiency, particularly when dealing with government services, by requiring people to present only one ID during transactions.
