According to a health specialist, over 94 percent of the adverse responses observed among youngsters aged 12 to 17 who were vaccinated against Covid-19 are minor.

On Nov. 3, 2021, the government began administering the Covid-19 vaccine to 12- to 17-year-olds.

The top three vaccine effects for this age group, according to the Department of Health (DOH), are vaccination site soreness, headache, and dizziness.

Chief of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines, Mary Ann Bunyi, said in an online media forum that the government provides vaccines that are effective and safe to use, particularly for children.

“Ito pong Covid-19 vaccine na ipamamahagi ng ating pamahalaan ay isang oportunidad para sa inyong pamilya na maprotektahan laban sa (This Covid-19 vaccine distributed by the government is an opportunity for your families to be protected from) Covid-19,” Bunyi, a member of the national immunization technical advisory group, added.

Children with preexisting medical issues, according to Bunyi, are more susceptible to the severe form of Covid-19.

She used DOH data to say that 396,730 cases have been reported among people aged 19 and under.

“The majority of instances were minor, but a few patients developed into severe cases with life-threatening symptoms. In youngsters, some have acquired complications such as multi-system inflammatory syndrome “she continued.

Vaccination against Covid-19 has reached 58 percent of the target population in the 12 to 17-year-old age range.

The government intends to vaccinate 80% of the 12.7 million children in this age range.
