Guanzon votes in favor of petitions requesting Marcos’ removal from office.

On Thursday, presiding Commissioner Rowena Guanzon of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) First Division stated she voted to approve petitions seeking to disqualify presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Guanzon claimed her dissenting opinion was to disqualify Marcos, a former senator, and son of former President Ferdinand Marcos, in an interview with GMA-7.

“It’s all occurring because Marcos Jr.’s vote is DQ [disqualified].” Moral turpitude, in my opinion, is founded on proof in the law. There is one, and I’m not going to keep it a secret; it’s the cause for everything,” she explained.

Guanzon went on to say that she gave her view on the issue to the other two First Division commissioners, Marlon Casquejo and Aimee Ferolino, as well as the rest of the Commission en banc.

“As I already stated, the reason is that the vote is to DQ. They believe they can invalidate my vote by disclosing the ponencia resolution after I retire, which is impossible because I previously presented my independent view to all of them, including the chair and Commissioners,” she explained.

“It should already be public knowledge that I voted.” Guanzon remarked, “My vote should be counted and evaluated by the next presiding Commissioner after me.”

She stated that she has received evidence indicating that efforts are being made to sway the other officials.

“The delay appears to be excessive. “My guess is that someone is interfering, that someone is interfering, that some people are trying to sway the commissioners, and that’s exactly what I don’t want,” Guanzon added.

“I’m pleading with them not to intercede so that the ponente can announce the resolution tomorrow or, at the very least, Monday because it’s the last day,” she said.

Guanzon, Chairman Sheriff Abas, and Commissioner Antonio Kho Jr. are all retiring on February 2.

Meanwhile, Marcos’ chief of staff, lawyer Vic Rodriguez, has stated that they will wait for the Division’s final verdict.

“Any statements made until then are purely theoretical,” Rodriguez said in a statement.
