The number of new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections dropped below 18,000 for the second day in a row on Friday, with 18,638 infections recorded.

In its latest Covid-19 tracking, the Department of Health (DOH) reported that Friday’s instances are slightly higher than Thursday’s 18,191 new cases.

The new infections brought the total number of active cases to 231,658, with 219,811 patients having light symptoms, 7,055 patients being asymptomatic, 2,971 patients having moderate symptoms, 1,509 patients having severe symptoms, and 312 patients in critical condition.

The Department of Health, on the other hand, recorded 13,106 new recoveries, down from 22,014 on Thursday, bringing the country’s total recoveries to 3,226,032, or 91.9 percent of all confirmed illnesses, which have totaled 3,511,491 since the pandemic began in 2020.

It recorded 68 additional deaths, down from 74 on Thursday, bringing the country’s Covid-19 mortality toll to 53,801 instances, or 1.53 percent of all cases.

According to the department’s latest data on Covid-19 testing, 62,671 tests were given on Wednesday, with a positivity rate of 34.6 percent.

To date, 49 percent of the country’s 3,900 intensive care unit (ICU) beds are occupied, as are 49 percent of the country’s 20,700 isolation beds and 51 percent of the country’s 15,900 ward beds. A quarter of the 3,100 ventilators are in use.

In the National Capital Region, 42% of the 1,300 ICU beds, 39% of the 4,700 isolation beds, and 45% of the 4,400 ward beds are in use. Around a quarter of a thousand ventilators are in service.
