The Philippines’ Department of Health (DOH) announced on Saturday that it plans to decrease the number of coronavirus vaccination brands in its portfolio to a maximum of four.

Myrna Cabotaje, DOH Undersecretary, stated that the country did not need to obtain all vaccine brands.

“Hindi na po tayo bibili sa aking pagkakaintindi ng Sputnik vaccine. Alam naman natin na kailangan natin nang i-limit. Masyado nang marami tayong portfolio ng bakuna (Based on my understanding, we are no longer going to purchase Sputnik vaccines. We know that we need to limit. We have many vaccines in our portfolio),” she said at the Laging Handa briefing. (According to my knowledge, we will no longer purchase Sputnik vaccinations.) We understand the importance of setting limits. We have a large vaccination portfolio), “At the Laging Handa briefing, she remarked.

“There are some preferences,” she continued, “so baka i-limit lang natin ngayon sa (we might limit ourselves to) three or four immunizations in the future.”

The single-dose Sputnik Light, made by Russia’s Gamaleya Institute, can be used as a first, second, or booster dose, according to Cabotaje.

AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Sinovac, Moderna, Janssen, Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, and Sinopharm make up the country’s vaccine portfolio.

According to the National Task Force Against Covid-19, the Philippines had already provided 125,089,118 vaccination doses as of January 26.

A total of 58,149,158 people have been fully vaccinated, including 7,391,735 children aged 12 to 17.

On February 4 and 5, a small number of sites will test the immunization of children aged 5 to 11 with lower-dose Pfizer vaccines.
