The city administration here has given each of the 696 families whose homes were devastated by Typhoon Odette on December 16 a cash assistance of PHP10,000.

The city’s Department of Social Services and Development facilitated the two-day distribution at the Gonzaga gym in Barangay Taculing (DSSD).

Mayor Evelio Leonardia announced that moreover PHP6.9 million has been set aside for financial help to typhoon victims.

After the first 232 beneficiaries received their reward on Thursday, there were 464 receivers on Friday.

Residents of Handumanan, Punta Taytay, Tangub, Pahanocoy, Alangilan, Mansilingan, Bata, Sum-ag, and Montevista, Singcang-Airport, Banago, Mandalagan, Alijis, Cabug, Estefania, Granada, Vista Alegre, Villamonte, and Felisa, as well as 20 numbered villages, got aid.

Those who have residences that are partially damaged will receive either PHP5,000 or PHP2,000, according to DSSD assessment.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), 8,309 residences in 57 of 61 barangays were partially damaged.

The City Council approved the declaration of state calamity in Bacolod through Resolution 722, based on the CDRRMO’s post-typhoon update and the DSSD’s report.

President Rodrigo Duterte proclaimed a state of calamity in Western Visayas, which includes Bacolod, in Presidential Proclamation 1267.
