Fish in an aquarium: How to Take Care of them
Having an aquarium is one of the easiest types of pets you can have. There are a few simple things you can do to take care of your fish once the tank is set up. Taking care of fish is a job that should be done every day. Other things should only be done once or twice a week. Keeping an aquarium clean on a daily basis isn’t that hard. To make sure the fish are healthy, look at them every day. Stress is the main reason fish get sick. So, a fish that is happy is a healthy fish. This is why. You should check to make sure that all the lights and filters on the aquarium are plugged in and working well. Do this every day. Feed only what can be eaten in the first two to five minutes of your child’s life. Any extra food in the tank will make it look dirty and make you sick, or it will make the nitrate levels in the tank go up. Every week, you should check the water ph and temperature to make sure they are good. Any changes that need to be made should be done quickly. Check with your local pet store when you buy fish to find out what level is best for them. They are differences between fish species.
Filter cleaning is a very important thing to do. In a fish tank, there is a lot of waste that the fish excrete. Filters pick up this waste and remove it from the tank. If the filters don’t get cleaned, they will get full of debris and not be able to do their job. In addition to getting rid of waste, filters can also be used to circulate oxygen through the tank. If the filters are clogged, the flow of blood slows down. In this way, you can only have so much oxygen in the tank at a given time. If you don’t treat this, your fish could die. When it’s time to change the filter on your aquarium’s water, you should do so about every two to three weeks. Clouds or bad smells will show when it needs to be cleaned. A few filters need to be changed, but others can be cleaned with water.
Slowly change the water in a tank. Before you start cleaning the aquarium, make sure all the lights and equipment are off. Water should be changed every one to two weeks. Adding tap water to a tank should be done the right way. The temperature of the water should be adjusted to stay within two degrees of the aquarium, too. Again, check with your local fish store before buying fish. As little as an hour later, some treatments can get the tap water ready. Other treatments need to be in the tank for at least a day before they can be added to your tank.
The sides of the tank should be scrubbed with a scrubber to get rid of any algae that have built up over time. Keep an eye on the fish. It helps if you move rocks and other decorations. Try to get rid of this debris when you take the water out, either with a bucket or a vacuum-style siphon like this one. Remove any dead leaves from plants that live in water. Clean the outside of the tank with a squeegee and water from the tap. Clean the lid and cover. Finally, plug the aquarium back in and enjoy the clean tank.
