As the nationwide vaccination drive entered its second day on Tuesday under the threat posed by the new Omicron coronavirus type, the government emphasized that health and safety precautions are in place.

Myrna Cabotaje, head of the National Vaccine Operations Center (NVOC) and Undersecretary of the Department of Health (DOH), said they are working closely with local government entities.

During the Laging Handa briefing, Cabotaje emphasized that “especially today (Tuesday), we are expecting more vaccinees.”

Marshals and ushers, she claimed, ensure that social separation is maintained at all times.

Approximately 8,000 vaccination hubs are open across the country as part of the “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” campaign, which aims to vaccinate 9 million people.

The NVOC is still waiting for an emergency use authorisation (EUA) to expand booster immunization to other industries, according to Cabotaje.

Following the issuance of the EUA by the Food and Drug Administration, the NVOC will offer guidelines for booster and third dose immunization for the general public.

As of Monday, 83,851,042 doses had been given out across the country, with 36,078,815 Filipinos having received their entire vaccination.

The total number of booster and extra shots has reached 233,949.
