The provincial government of Negros Occidental has expressed gratitude to two local government units (LGUs) in Luzon and Mindanao for donating food and cash to Negrenses affected by Typhoon Odette in December.

The donations as of Friday comprised 10,000 rice bags from Isabela Province and PHP1 million from Iligan City.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II said he received the food packets on Thursday at the Provincial Capitol grounds, each containing two kilograms of rice. These are currently being supplied to typhoon-affected areas in southern Negros.

“The Province of Negros Occidental sends its deepest thanks to the Province of Isabela for remembering the victims of Typhoon Odette,” he said on Friday on behalf of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer.

The Isabela Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, according to Diaz, will also send 5,000 rice boxes to Sipalay City separately.

After Typhoon Ulysses destroyed the northern Luzon province of Isabela in November 2020, Negros Occidental contributed PHP1 million in financial aid to Isabela.

During his visit to the Provincial Capitol here on Tuesday, Lacson got a cheque for PHP1 million from Iligan City Councilor Jake Balanay.

“We will very certainly purchase additional roofing materials.” Iligan City has generously donated to me, and I am grateful. “It’s a huge help in our ongoing relief efforts for the victims of Typhoon Odette,” he said.

Lacson has supplied house materials, food packs, and other relief aid to three of the six LGUs in southern Negros in recent weeks, especially in the sixth district, which was the hardest struck by “Odette” on December 16.

Sipalay City, as well as the municipalities of Ilog and Hinobaan, are among them. The distribution of aid will continue in Kabankalan City, as well as the communities of Cauayan and Candoni.
