NTF has issued a warning to local governments about vaccine deterioration.

The deterioration of “a few hundred doses” of AstraZeneca vaccine that expired on November 30 would have to be explained by some local government units.

The pills in question were part of a 1.5 million AstraZeneca vaccine donation to the Philippines, which was delivered in late October 2021.

Dr. Ted Herbosa, medical consultant to the National Task Force Against Covid-19, stated on Wednesday that most of the shots were drunk, but that a few hundred were not delivered on or before November 30.

“We devoured most of it,” he said in an interview, “but there are a few hundred doses that expired as of November 30, so that’s the one we’re going to check into—the LGUs that were unable to inject it.”

“Because this is national government property, (Presidential Adviser for Covid-19) Vince Dizon’s vow is to do a show-cause order for the LGUs that had vaccines that had expired.”

The affected LGUs would have to justify the delay in administering the vaccines and their ultimate expiration.

“They’ll be asked to explain to the Department of the Interior and Local Government why (a) case for wastage of government-procured or government-donated… government-owned vaccinations won’t be made against them,” he said.

According to Herbosa, a number of communities received the same batch of Covid-19 shots and completed the doses on schedule.

Meanwhile, he stated that the next vaccination shipments would be evenly dispersed based on the capacity and needs of the recipient LGU.

“We need to lay out the vaccination distribution extremely carefully since some locations require more shots than others,” he said. “(As for Pfizer), we still want to allocate for high-population areas with ultra-low freezers; the cold chain must be available.”

On Wednesday night, Herbosa and US Embassy Acting Deputy Economic Counselor Claire Bea greeted a total of 1,078,740 state-purchased Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines.

Over 5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine are expected to arrive in the country this week, either through donation or procurement.

Herbosa is optimistic that the Philippines’ inoculation rates would continue to rise since people are “less hesitant now,” as evidenced by the three-day vaccine drive’s turnout.

“It’s incredible that we’ve reached four million people in two days, four million of whom have received their first dose. I think it’s also fantastic that so many people are waiting up at vaccination stations “he stated

“Even BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) surprised us since it was vaccinating 300,000 people per day, whereas I believe it was only a few thousand prior. Even Region IV-A, which was previously slow, was suddenly hitting their targets “he stated

From November 29 to December 1, a three-day major immunization effort dubbed Bayanihan, Bakunahan sought to administer nine million doses.

The exact count of total vaccines provided during the immunization push, which is scheduled to take place again in the middle of this month, has yet to be released by health officials.
