The bill to improve the provincial hospital in NegOcc has been approved by Congress.
House Bill (HB)10463, which will boost the bed capacity of the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital (TLJPH) in Silay City, Negros Occidental, was approved on third and final reading by the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
The proposed law, which would increase the hospital’s authorized number of beds from 100 to 300, was written by Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez of the 3rd District, whose district contains the hospital’s location.
“TLJPH’s capacity to serve the healthcare needs of Negrenses will be enhanced,” Benitez said in a statement on Thursday.
The hospital’s existing professional health care services and facilities will also be improved to correspond to and be proportionate with the increase in bed capacity, according to the bill’s third reading copy.
The current workforce, which includes doctors, nurses, and support staff, will be expanded as well.
The provincial government of Negros Occidental will provide the necessary funds to cover maintenance and other operating expenses, as well as appropriate funds for an additional human resource complement to support the increase in bed capacity and upgrading of its facilities and professional health care services, according to HB10463.
The Secretary of the Department of Health (DOH) will incorporate funding for the TLJPH’s capital outlay requirements in the agency’s subsidy programs.
A molecular laboratory that conducts coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) tests is one of the TLJPH’s facilities.
The provincial government is also building the hospital’s PHP100-million infectious disease facility, the Center for Emerging and Re-Emerging Diseases, with help from the Department of Health’s Facilities Enhancement Program and Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go’s office, chairperson of the Senate committee on health.
