The Marikina Shoe Bazaar aims to assist shoemakers in their recovery from the pandemic.

Marikina’s city administration began its Christmas Shoe Bazaar on Monday to help the local shoe sector recover from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The bazaar, which will continue till January 15 at Freedom Park, just in front of City Hall, was inaugurated by Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro.

The bazaar drew a total of 40 manufacturers, mostly from the footwear and leather goods industries.

The bazaar features high-quality, cheap, and long-lasting shoes, bags, belts, and other items created by Marikina’s experienced artisans.

The bazaar sells items for as little as PHP100 to as much as PHP2,500.

“Hindi tayo pwedeng igupo ng ano mang pandemya at ano mang pagsubok,” she says. Kung bakit niyo niyo niyo niyo niyo niyo Ito natin natin natin natin natin natin natin natin natin Pwedeng pwedeng pwedeng pwedeng pwedeng pwedeng May isang Marikina taga na nagmamahal sa sapatos, hindi mawawala itong Marikina sapatos. We cannot be defeated by any pandemic or challenge because it is an ikinabuhay and a nagsilbing pag-asa ng marami sa atin (We cannot be defeated by any pandemic or challenge because it is an ikinabuhay and a nagsilbing pag-asa ng marami sa atin). Do you have any idea why? This is fantastic. This is something we cannot overlook. Marikina shoes will remain as long as there is a single Marikina inhabitant who like shoes. This is our source of income and hope),” he explained.

The annual shoe fair was canceled by the city authorities in 2020 owing to restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 epidemic.

The bazaar, according to Teodoro, exhibits Marikina shoemakers’ and manufacturers’ innovation and skill.

He also voiced optimism that the city’s 6,000 shoemakers and craftspeople, who were displaced by the pandemic, would be able to earn a profit.

Teodoro also encouraged the public to consume footwear and other locally made products made by talented craftsmen in the city recognized as the Philippines’ shoe capital to help local shoe manufacturers recover from the bad effects of the health crisis.
