Sara discusses how the ‘no vax, no entry’ policy affects the local business.

Mayor Sara Z. Duterte opposes a “no vaccine, no admission” policy in the city, claiming that it would have a negative impact on the local economy.

However, according to Duterte, corporate institutions may enforce such rules since they are legitimate.

“We do not have such a policy here in Davao City because it will severely harm our local economy, which has been seriously hit since the commencement of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020,” she said in a radio interview Monday, adding that economic activity and health regulations must be balanced.

Under Alert Level 2, some establishments and activities are allowed to operate at a maximum of 50% indoor venue capacity for fully vaccinated individuals and those under 18 years of age, even if unvaccinated, and 70% outdoor venue capacity for fully vaccinated individuals and those under 18 years of age, even if unvaccinated.

“It’ll be the same again this year.” Our local economy, as well as the flow of commodities and people, must be balanced. “So we don’t have that discussion in Davao City about ‘no vaccination, no entry,'” she explained.

Until December 15, the city is on Level 2 alert.

“We did not require testing or vaccination requirements for land travel even at the start of the pandemic last year,” she continued, “except for air travelers who were required to present a valid negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test before boarding at the port of origin.”

The test before travel regulation was mandated by an executive order issued to combat the spread of the coronavirus in the city.
