To attain their desired population protection, healthcare workers in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) are currently working double time on their immunization campaign in the region’s component areas.

Dr. Bashary Latiph, BARMM’s health minister, claimed Monday that the BARMM’s recent “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” campaign was a success, despite the region’s failure to achieve the 940,000 target consumers.

To date, more than 680,000 people have been vaccinated in the region, out of a total population of 2.9 million.

BARMM “bakunadors” (vaccinators), according to Latiph, will boost the campaign’s vitality by increasing the number of vaccination hubs to 570.

“We’re stepping up our vaccination efforts; there are still folks who haven’t had the vaccine, and we’ll keep trying to reach out to them,” Latiph added.

He continued, “Our provincial, municipal, and barangay healthcare providers are now out there to continue our work.”

During the huge vaccination effort from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, the MOH-BARMM reported a total of 195,440 vaccine doses delivered in the region.

According to MOH data, 162,352 vaccines were manually recorded, whereas 33,088 were submitted into the vaccine operations reporting system.

Latiph praised the many BARMM government agencies that accompanied MOH throughout the three-day exercise as healthcare providers and “bakunadors” resumed their arduous effort of reaching out to citizens in geographically difficult-to-reach locations.

“Kudos also to men in uniform, non-government groups, civil society organizations, and volunteers for their support during the Bayanihan, Bakunahan,” he added.

The BARMM encompasses the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi, as well as the 63 villages in North Cotabato’s six towns.
