Fewer Covid-19 cases are the ‘fruit’ of NTF’s labor:
Fewer coronavirus cases reported in recent weeks are the “result” of the national government’s efforts in the pandemic response, according to a member of the National Task Force Against Covid-19.
Assistant Secretary Wilben Mayor, the head of the NTF Against Covid-19 sub-task force on current activities, encouraged people who had not yet received their vaccine to do so.
“As you can see, we now have very few cases; this is the fruit of our labors over the past months, and we want to maintain it, and the only way to do that is to be vaccinated and to follow the minimum health standards,” Mayor said in an interview at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 during the arrival of 1,017,900 doses of Pfizer vaccine procured by the national government through the Asian Development Bank.
According to Mayor, the current cargo raises the total vaccination doses provided to the country since February to around 151.4 million doses.
The United States Acting Deputy Chief of Mission David “Chip” Gamble was also there at the arrival and commended the government on its improved pandemic response.
“They’ve told me about the big hospitals, many of which have no patients. It simply indicates that the Philippines has won the battle against Covid. We’re on our way to a joyous Christmas and a prosperous New Year, and I’m thrilled American immunizations can help “Gamble stated to the press.
Meanwhile, following the success of the first national immunization days from November 29 to December 3, NTF top implementer and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. expects a better Christmas ahead.
The country delivered 10,254,560 doses over the course of five days, equating to a daily average jab rate of 2,050,912 doses, the highest rate since the national immunization campaign began in March.
“Kung matatandaan niyo, nangako po si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na magkakaroon tayo ng mas masayang Pasko ngayong taong ito, nangako po si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na magkakaroon tayo ng mas masayang Pasko ngayong taong President Rodrigo Duterte promised a better Christmas this year in his patuloy na pagbaba ng mga kaso ng Covid-19 sa ating bansa because kung saan ang ating positivity rate ay mas mababa pa sa 3%, natitiyak namin na maisasakatuparan ang pangako ng ating mahal We assure the promise of a brighter Christmas) as the number of cases continues to decline, with a positive rate of less than 3%),” Galvez said during the Bayanihan, Bakunahan vaccine campaign’s completion program at a mall in Mandaluyong City on Thursday.
Over the last few days, the Philippines has seen an average daily caseload of less than 500, a considerable decrease from the thousands of daily cases seen a few months earlier due to the highly transmissible Delta strain.
The government has managed to lower the country’s infection rate down to a World Health Organization-set threshold by expanding vaccination coverage and implementing more effective pandemic response and mitigation measures.
The Philippines had provided a total of 93,687,341 vaccination doses as of December 7. 53,841,469 people have received their initial doses, while 39,236,194 have been fully vaccinated.
Galvez expressed confidence that the Philippines will meet its population protection goal of fully vaccinating at least 54 million Filipinos by the end of the year.
He went on to say that the vigorous deployment of the government’s vaccination program is one of the steps the government is taking to prepare the country for the Omicron variant’s arrival.
Galvez also urged Filipinos to be vaccinated during the second leg of the national vaccination days, which will take place from December 15 to 17, as part of the government’s attempts to increase vaccination throughput.
