By March 31, the government hopes to have administered two Covid-19 main doses to at least 70 million Filipinos.

Dr. Ted Herbosa, the National Task Force’s (NTF) special medical adviser on Covid-19, said that properly vaccinated at least 70 million people is critical to establishing population protection across the country, complementing the government’s pandemic exit strategy.

“So very crucial maabot natin by March 31 iyong 70 million or 70% ng ating population para fully vaccinated (It is extremely necessary to fully vaccinate 70 million or 70% of our total population),” Herbosa said during a virtual interview on the state-run PTV news channel’s Laging Handa briefing.

The government began the third “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” mass immunization push on Thursday, with the goal of inoculating at least five million Filipinos nationwide by Friday.

The initiative, according to Herbosa, aims to strengthen local government units (LGUs) that are still behind in their vaccination campaigns, such as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

According to data from the National Vaccination Operations Center, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Caraga region, Mimaropa, Soccsargen, the Zamboanga Peninsula, Eastern Visayas, Bicol Region, and Central Visayas vaccinated less than 70% of their total population as of January 23.

59,899,717 Filipinos have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, including those who received single-dose Janssen vaccines and Sputnik Light vaccinations.

A total of 8,011,994 people received booster shots out of the number of completely vaccinated people.
