The Israeli Ministry of Defense, through the Israeli Embassy in Manila, gave 16,000 antigen test kits to the Philippine Department of National Defense (DND) to aid in the fight against Covid-19.

The antigen test kits were handed over to National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana by Israeli officials Ambassador Ilan Fluss and Defense Attaché Mr. Raz Shabtay.

“Friends support each other in times of need. Israel is a close friend of the Philippines, and it will continue to help and share its knowledge in a variety of disciplines. “I am honored to give this Israeli assistance today to assist the Philippine Department of National Defense in keeping the country safe and secure,” said Fluss.

“The partnership between Israel and the Philippines has never been as strong as it is now,” Shabtay remarked, referring to the ties between the two defense ministries.

“We are thrilled to be able to support the Philippines Defense Forces once more by donating 16,000 antigen test kits to aid in the fight against the current Global Pandemic,” he added.

Israel is still assisting the Philippines in its fight against Covid-19. Two Israeli delegations of medical specialists aided the country’s national immunization program in 2021, and Israel’s local clinical standards for Covid-19 infection control techniques and hospital management were shared with the Department of National Defense and the Philippine National Police.

Through webinars, workshops, and collaborative meetings, Israel continues to share its experience and knowledge in emergency and pandemic response with the Philippines.

On February 9, a handover ceremony was performed at the DND Headquarters in Quezon City.

Assistant Secretary Jesus Rey Avilla, Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad, Director Franklin Gali, Brig. Gen. Edgar Cardioza, Undersecretary Raymundo de Vera Elefante, and other DND and embassy staff members were in attendance.
