On Thursday night, more than four million doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine 2019 (Covid-19) arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in two batches.

The first plane to land at Terminal 3 was an Air Hong Kong flight carrying 780,000 doses of vaccine for minors aged five to eleven years, which the government had obtained through the World Bank.

Silkway Airlines delivered 3,436,290 dosages given by the US government through the COVAX Facility to Terminal 2 around two hours later.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., main implementer of the National Task Force Against (NTF) Covid-19; USAID Health Director Michelle Lang-Alli; NTF special adviser Dr. Teodoro Herbosa; and Department of Health Undersecretary Ma. Carolina Vidal-Taio congratulated the twin deliveries.

In an interview, Lang-Alli remarked, “This is really crucial for the kids in the Philippines so they can go back to school, enjoy sports, enjoy cultural activities, and be happy, regular kids again.”

The Pfizer vaccine, which contains a lower dose, is the only one that has been approved for children aged five to eleven.

As of February 9, or two days after inoculation began, a total of 26,363 children in the smallest age group had received the first dosage in 40 sites around the country, according to the National Vaccination Operations Center.

Galvez previously stated that once the majority of children have been vaccinated and the country has a larger supply inventory of Covid-19 vaccines, the national government may need to enforce a “strong mandate” on immunization in the future.

“Kasi sa ngayon, step by step.” We can’t mandate them na talagang lahat bakunado (We’re doing it step by step now.) For the time being, only a few people have been vaccinated, and we cannot compel that everyone is vaccinated),” he stated.
