ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A hundred troopers from the Philippine Army’s primary command, the 1st Infantry Division (1ID), is now undertaking a five-day training in preparation for the May 9, 2022, local and national elections.

The JLEOTT (Joint Law Enforcement Operations Trainer’s Training) began on Monday and will end on February 18.

The JLEOTT is being held at the 1st Division Training School in Barangay Upper Pulacan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur, which is also the location of the 1ID headquarters.

The JLEOTT intends to train and capacitate military soldiers in their role during elections and other activities other than internal security operations, according to Brig. Gen. Jose Randolf Sino Cruz, 1ID assistant commander, in a statement, released Tuesday.

According to Sino Cruz, the training was originally part of the Gender and Development Program, which was created to teach female troops in conducting investigations and other law enforcement activities.

“With the impending elections, the command will prepare its people to deal with difficult scenarios and conduct checks,” he stated.

Participants from the line and post units will be part of a pool of trainers who will pass on the same training to their fellow troops in their respective units, according to Sino Cruz.

He said the training is being done in collaboration with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Sino Cruz instructed the attendees to pay attention to every session, absorb the information they need, and complete duties quickly.

The 1ID is one of three Army divisions under the jurisdiction of Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), which covers the Zamboanga Peninsula, Lanao provinces, and parts of Misamis Occidental.

The 6th Infantry Division, based in Awang, Maguindanao, and the 11th Infantry Division, based in Jolo, Sulu, are the other two Army divisions under Westmincom.
