OTTAWA, ONTARIO — The Public Health Agency of Canada said Tuesday that the on-arrival test requirements for properly vaccinated passengers would be eased beginning February 28 as the latest wave of Covid-19 caused by the Omicron variant has reached its peak.

Travelers may still be subjected to random testing upon arrival, but they will no longer be required to quarantine while waiting for their test results, according to the press release.

Instead, travelers can take a quick antigen test that has been approved by the countries from which they are traveling.

Currently, all tourists must show documentation of a negative molecular test, such as an RT-PCR test, within 72 hours of their scheduled flight or land entrance into Canada, regardless of immunization status.

Due to the emergence of the Omicron variety, the government is also lowering its advisory advising Canadians to avoid non-essential travel.

Unvaccinated youngsters under the age of 12 are no longer prohibited from traveling with vaccinated adults. They won’t have to wait and isolate themselves before going to school, childcare, or camps.

Unvaccinated tourists will still be screened upon arrival in Canada and will be quarantined for 14 days, according to the press release.
